TV and Cinema

When a TV or cinema subscription no longer serves you, you have a clear right to walk away. In Singapore, you are not locked into a service forever, and you do not need to tolerate confusing terms or endless customer service calls. Tocancel exists to make that exit simple: we prepare, print, and send your cancellation letter by registered post, all from your home and without a printer.

Your consumer rights

Singapore’s Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act (CPFTA) is on your side when you decide to cancel. This law protects you from unfair practices and gives you the legal ground to dispute charges you believe are wrong or to request a refund where a provider has not held up its end of the deal. In practice, this means you can end your subscription without facing unreasonable penalties or being held hostage by a company’s internal rules.

Notice periods

Many providers try to extend your contract with long notice windows or automatic renewals. Under fair trading principles, you have the right to a reasonable and clearly stated notice period. If a company hides these terms or makes them hard to find, you can push back and assert your right to cancel.

Refunds and disputed charges

If you have been billed after you attempted to cancel, or if a service was not delivered as promised, you can dispute those charges. The CPFTA supports your right to ask for a refund when a provider has breached its obligations. Therefore, you do not have to simply accept a bill you do not owe.

Common reasons to cancel

Your viewing habits change, and so should your subscriptions. Here are the most frequent reasons people in Singapore choose to cancel their TV and cinema services.

Rising subscription costs

Streaming platforms like Netflix and Apple add up fast, especially when you stack them with sports or niche services. If you are not getting real value from what you pay, cancelling frees up money for the content you actually watch.

Your viewing habits have changed

Your tastes evolve, and a platform that once suited you, such as Viu or Iqiyi, may no longer match your interests. Cancelling gives you the chance to reassess and invest in services that fit your current preferences.

Better alternatives available

New streaming options launch regularly, and a competitor might offer better content, pricing, or features. Switching services is often smarter than holding onto outdated subscriptions that no longer compete.
